Peer Review Process

All scholarly manuscripts submitted to Godišnjak/Jahrbuch are subject to double-blind peer review, in which the identities of both the authors and the reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review process.

Each manuscript is evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise in the subject area of the submitted work.

If both reviewers recommend publication, subject to any revisions they may require, the manuscript may proceed through the editorial process once the requested revisions have been satisfactorily addressed.

If both reviewers recommend rejection, the manuscript will not be accepted for publication.

If the two reviewers provide conflicting recommendations, the manuscript is submitted to a third independent reviewer. The recommendation of the third reviewer determines whether the manuscript may proceed toward publication: if the third review is positive, the manuscript may be accepted subject to any required revisions; if the third review is negative, the manuscript will not be accepted for publication.

Reviewers are expected to assess manuscripts objectively and confidentially, taking into consideration their scholarly quality, originality, methodological soundness, relevance to the journal’s scope, and contribution to the relevant field of research.

The Editorial Board is responsible for ensuring that the peer-review procedure is conducted in accordance with the journal’s editorial policies.

Preparation for Double-Blind Peer Review

To ensure anonymity during the review process, authors should submit the title page and the anonymized manuscript as two separate files.

The title page should contain the title of the manuscript, the names and institutional affiliations of all authors, and the full contact details of the corresponding author, including an email address.

The anonymized manuscript should not contain the authors’ names, institutional affiliations, acknowledgements, or other information that could reveal their identities. Authors should also remove identifying information from file names and document properties. Self-references that could disclose authorship should be anonymized during the review process and restored, where appropriate, in the final version of the manuscript.

Copyright and Author Rights

Authors retain the copyright to their published work.

By submitting a manuscript to Godišnjak/Jahrbuch, authors grant the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the publisher of the journal, the non-exclusive right of first publication and the right to publish, distribute, archive, and make the accepted article publicly available in print and electronic form.

Authors warrant that their manuscript is original, has not previously been published in substantially the same form, and is not simultaneously under consideration for publication elsewhere. All co-authors, where applicable, must have approved the submission and publication of the manuscript.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscript does not infringe the copyright or other rights of third parties. Where copyrighted or otherwise protected material is included in a manuscript, authors are responsible for obtaining any permissions required for its publication.

Authors may deposit and share the submitted, accepted, and published versions of their work in institutional or subject repositories and on their personal or institutional websites. When sharing the published version, appropriate acknowledgement of its original publication in Godišnjak/Jahrbuch should be provided.

Open Access Policy

Godišnjak/Jahrbuch is an open-access journal. All published content is freely and immediately available to readers without subscription, registration, or other access charges.

Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0). Under this license, users may share and adapt the published material for non-commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the author(s) and the original publication in Godišnjak/Jahrbuch, a link to the license is provided, and any changes made to the original material are indicated.

No embargo period applies to published articles.

Plagiarism Policy

Godišnjak/Jahrbuch is committed to maintaining high standards of academic integrity and does not tolerate plagiarism or other forms of inappropriate textual or intellectual appropriation.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that submitted manuscripts are their original work and that all ideas, data, text, images, and other material originating from other sources are appropriately acknowledged and cited. The use of another person’s work without proper attribution, including the unattributed reproduction or close paraphrasing of previously published material, is considered unacceptable.

Submitted manuscripts are screened for textual similarity using Crossref Similarity Check, powered by iThenticate, as part of the journal’s editorial procedure. Similarity reports are used as an editorial screening tool and are not, by themselves, considered evidence of plagiarism. The Editorial Board evaluates identified similarities in their context, taking into account the nature, extent, source, and location of the overlapping material.

The journal does not apply a fixed similarity percentage as an automatic criterion for acceptance or rejection. Where potentially problematic overlap is identified, the editors assess the case individually and may request clarification or revision from the author, reject the manuscript, or take other appropriate action depending on the nature and seriousness of the issue.

Authors must also appropriately cite their own previously published work when it is reused. Substantial duplication of an author’s previously published material without appropriate citation or justification, as well as redundant or duplicate publication, may constitute grounds for rejection.

If suspected plagiarism or substantial inappropriate overlap is identified after publication, the Editorial Board will investigate the matter and, where necessary, contact the author(s) for an explanation. Depending on the outcome and seriousness of the case, the journal may issue a correction, expression of concern, or retraction of the article.

Allegations of plagiarism and other forms of publication misconduct are handled in accordance with the journal’s Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement and with reference to internationally recognized publication-ethics standards, including guidance issued by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Advertising Policy

Godišnjak/Jahrbuch does not accept or publish commercial advertising.

Any financial support or sponsorship received in connection with the publication of the journal or a particular issue is acknowledged transparently in the publication. Such support has no influence on editorial decisions, peer review, the selection or acceptance of manuscripts, or the scholarly content of the journal.

Editorial decisions are made independently by the Editorial Board and are based solely on scholarly and editorial criteria.

Data Availability and Sharing Policy

Godišnjak/Jahrbuch supports transparency and good research practices and encourages authors, where appropriate, to make the research data and other materials underlying their published findings available to readers.

The nature of research materials varies considerably across the disciplines covered by the journal. Relevant materials may include, where applicable, archaeological datasets, catalogues, inventories, tables, images, maps, survey or fieldwork data, linguistic datasets, interview or ethnographic materials, archival references, and other documentation necessary to understand or verify the research presented in an article.

Authors are encouraged to deposit research data and supplementary materials in appropriate trusted repositories when this is feasible and consistent with legal, ethical, professional, and institutional requirements. Where data are deposited in a repository, authors should provide an appropriate citation, persistent identifier, or link in the manuscript whenever possible.

The journal does not require the public sharing of data or materials where access is restricted for legitimate reasons. Such restrictions may include the protection of personal or sensitive information, confidentiality obligations, copyright and third-party rights, restrictions imposed by archives, museums, collections or other institutions, protection of archaeological sites and cultural heritage, or other legal and ethical considerations.

Where relevant to the research presented, authors are encouraged to include a Data Availability Statement explaining whether supporting data or materials are publicly available and, if so, where they can be accessed. Where such materials cannot be made publicly available, authors may briefly state the reason for the restriction.

The availability or public deposition of research data is not, in itself, a condition for publication in Godišnjak/Jahrbuch. Authors remain responsible for the accuracy, integrity, appropriate documentation, and lawful and ethical use of the research data and materials on which their publications are based.
