Abstract

Publius Ovidius Nazon (Publius Ovidius Naso 43 BC — 17/18 AD), the last representative of the ≪golden age≪ of Roman poetry, is also the only one among the famous poets of the Augustan period who referred to the events that were directly was connected with the then province of Illyricum and the Balkan world. This more expressive relationship of his was undoubtedly conditioned by everything that happened with the Roman State as a whole and with Ovid himself in the last decade of the Augustan period. For this reason, Ovid's more generous references to Illyricum and the Balkan region are contained in his late works Tristia and Letters from Pontus (Epistulae ex Pontd).
