Prof. Blagoje Govedarica

Professor Govedarica is a prehistoric archaeologist, graduate of the Belgrade University Faculty of Philosophy (1973). At the same university, he obtained his Magister's degree in 1980 and his doctorate in 1988. He habilitated at the University of Heidelberg in 1999. Between 2001 and 2022, he worked as an Associate Professor at the Universities of Heidelberg and Berlin. His academic focus is the study of the cultural development of the Copper and Bronze Ages in the Balkans and the wider region of South-eastern Europe, on which he has published approximately 130 scholarly articles and two monographs to date.
Professor Govedarica is the current Director of the Centre for Balkan Studies at the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and a Research Fellow at the Eurasian Department of the German Archaeological Institute in Berlin. In these capacities, he has led numerous research projects and organised national and international academic conferences. He is a member of the editorial boards of the journals Glasnik Zemaljskog Muzeja (Sarajevo) and Stratum Plus (Chisinau), and has edited numerous monographs and collections of papers in the field of archaeology.
Professor Govedarica is a Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ASAB-H), Corresponding Member of the German Archaeological Institute and a Member of the Centra for Balkan studies ASAB-H.
